Are You A Fan Of Tolix Chairs?

replica Tolix Chair with coffee bag cushionWe’re excited to introduce the latest member to our replica Tolix chair range – Gunmetal steel with coffee burlap cushion.

As you know we’re always on the look out for new and interesting products so we can continue to give our customers a wide choice to suit all tastes and budgets, so when we spotted this latest replica Tolix chair, we knew had to have it.

Similar to all of the Tolix range this aesthetically pleasing cafè chair is crafted from powder coated steel with a matte gunmetal finish but it differs from other chairs in the collection in that it has a lower more rounded back which offers great support for a customer’s back, and is fitted with a coffee burlap cushion, which gives it more of a rustic appeal.

More about burlap

The cushion is made from Hessian or Jute which is strong and durable and historically referred to as ‘burlap’. Although the Indians in ancient times had used small amounts of Hessian for ropes and paper, until it was discovered in 1790 by English traders the plant hadn’t really been exported. However, by 1797 Britain had received more than 100 tons of Hessian and continued to ship it to make various use of it. The plant also found its way to Scotland where by the 1830’s it was discovered how to spin this tough plant into yarn and so a new business flourished.

By 1869 there were no fewer than 5 jute mills in Dundee, Scotland containing a total of 950 looms. By 1910 this had rocketed to a staggering 38 mills operating 30,685 looms. Over a million yards of cloth was manufactured in that year and transformed into 450 million burlap bags. These bags were then used to carry coffee beans, cement, and concrete.

Cool and eye-catching

Today, the vintage coloured prints and graphics on the burlap sacks are really cool and eye-catching adding even more character to this iconic chair. By transforming the sacks into padded cushions for such an iconic chair, we feel it makes them even more desirable to have in your cafe. It softens the overall look of the Tolix chair and means that you can step away from the industrial look and match these chairs with other rustic tactile materials such as wood, brick, and cement. Just imagine how cool these chairs would look grouped around a large wooden communal dining table in your cafe or placed around smaller metal Tolix tables.

If you’re a fan of Tolix but don’t have the budget for the real thing, then our replica Tolix chairs are an affordable alternative and designed for commercial use. Strong, durable, and stackable, they’re practical and extremely versatile. Why not call into our showroom in Brendale and take a look for yourself. Parlez-Vous Francais?

Parisian chair in chocolate and creamIf you’re looking to add a touch of “Je ne sais quoi” to your cafe with some stylish new chairs then why not consider our Parisian Chair. Fashioned from a welded aluminium frame with a flat braided nylon wicker seat and back, it’s sure to lend the ambience that you’re seeking.

When it comes to cafe chairs there are plenty of styles to choose from but one which often gets overlooked is wicker. People often get the terms ‘wicker’ and ‘rattan’ confused, with the first being the process of weaving and the end result, and the latter referring to the type of cane which is often used to construct a wicker chair. Although wicker chairs were originally made from a choice of rattan or other canes, grasses, or paper fibre, commonly in commercial furniture, the wicker is made from nylon or resin strands which are more durable.

Why buy Parisian chairs for your cafe?

Our attractive Parisian chairs are available to buy in two colour variations: black and white or chocolate and cream and offer many benefits:

  • Suitable for indoor or outdoor use – the advantage of utilising chairs which are both suited to indoor and outdoor use it that you can use them in all areas of your cafe to give a seamless look. Passer bys attracted by your pavement chairs will be met with the same seats inside.

  • Stackable – although outdoor furniture is designed to be used outdoor, in makes sense to protect them from harsh elements and store them away during bad weather whenever possible. The fact that these chairs stacks up to 12 high, makes easy work of storage especially if you’re limited in space.

  • Commercial grade – Commercial grade furniture is essential for any cafe since it’s intended for regular use on a daily basis without showing signs of wear and tear.

  • Rustproof – Aluminium is the perfect choice for outdoor use since it is rustproof and will remain looking beautiful whatever the weather brings.

  • Elastic beneath the seat for additional support – The seat takes the brunt of a person’s weight which is why these chairs are given additional support beneath he seat with elastic strapping. It also makes the seat more flexible and comfortable.

  • Lightweight and easy to move around – Because these chairs are light, it means your staff can easily move them around to change the floor plan or to deal with a large party wnating to sit together.

  • Easily cleaned – Finally, these chairs can be wiped down with little more than a damp cloth and a mild, non abrasive cleaner, to remove any stains or sticky marks.

Introducing The Student Cafe Chair

Student YellowIf you cast your mind back to your school days then you might recall that you sat behind your desk in the classroom on a very basic chair which consisted of a plastic back and seat with tubular steel splayed legs. While not the best looking chair in the world, they worked in school because they were lightweight and when the school day ended they could easily be stacked on top of one another.

We thought we’d use this blog post to introduce you to our latest arrival, the Student Chair. Not just for students, it works well within the cafe environment too. Boasting clean, sharp lines, it features an attractive timber back and seat with a waterfall edge to protect the thighs. The frame work is made from powder coated tubular steel with rubber stops on the legs to prevent slippage and comes in attractive shades of blue or yellow, as well as the more traditional black or white.

So how could you utilise this simplistic chair into your cafe venue?

Industrial theme

Well right away, we can see it working well in an industrial setting. It’s got all the right components – metal and wood – and with its minimalistic lines it will blend in well with the exposed beams, open brickwork, and steel pipes that should be on view. Black or white would work well in a monochrome setting, or to avoid your industrial theme looking a little dark or dingy, then the blue or yellow framed chairs could act as a lively accent colour.

Communal dining

If you’re embracing the trend of communal dining then these fine looking chairs would fit in nicely with timber trestle tables. Imagine how funky they would look placed along long tables in alternating colours.

Country cafe

Finally, how about a country cafe theme where there is plenty of wood on display from your serving hatch to your counters to your tables. The yellow frames chairs would work wonderfully well to bring an injection of colour on a dull day so that it would feel as if the sun was shining.

A little more information

Besides being lightweight, stackable, and versatile, the Student chair is sturdy and durable which is a must, and naturally it’s designed for commercial use. It’s also easy to maintain, needing little more than a wipe with a damp cloth and a quick buff with a dry cloth. Being made from steel, these chairs would also work well with other steel furniture such as Tolix stools and with both of these being available in assorted colours, you could easily tie them in with one or other aspects of your décor.

We’ve given you a few reasons and ideas as to why and where to use our Student chairs, but we’re sure your imagination will let you come up with a few others. Meanwhile with the chairs on sale as a promotional offer, there’s never been a better time to buy them.

We stock a wide range of commercial furniture, so if you need any advice or information on any of our products then please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 07 3205 1616 and we’ll be pleased to assist you.

Should You Choose Backless Or Traditional Bar Stools?

ribbon stool in blackChoosing stools for your cafe or bar can be a daunting and exhausting task since there are so many styles of commercial stools to choose from, each slightly different from the other, making it a difficult decision to know which is best for your venue. When choosing backless or traditional stools there are a few points to consider. Let’s take a look:

Appearance

One of the most obvious differences between these two types of stools is their appearance, since one has a back and the other clearly doesn’t. Whichever you choose, be aware that there are plenty of styles to choose from so it pays to have a clear picture in your head to narrow down your search.

One of the most important things is make sure that whichever style you choose complements the décor of your theme and/or other furniture without clashing. For example a backless stainless steel stool will look totally out of place in a cafe that is full of classic bentwood or ladder back furniture. Equally a cross back Bentwood stool will look out of place in a cafe filled with colourful PP chairs and tables. In addition, if you already have short backless stools grouped around your tables then tall high backed stools sat at your bar may also look out of place and disproportionate.

Comfort

Another consideration is the level of comfort that your customers will be expecting from either your backless or traditional bar stools. Although a backless bar stool is better suited for manoeuvrability and space for customers as they enter or leave your dining area, they don’t offer as much support as their traditional counterparts and customer may find your stools give them backache if sat for a longer period of time. Another point you may want to consider is that stools with backs often have a padded seat for comfort, whereas that feature is not so common in a backless stool.

Naturally whichever type of stool you choose is down to personal choice and it’s a nigh on impossible task to choose something which meets all the needs and requirements of all your customers.

We stock a wide variety of commercial bar stools, both backless and traditional so you may well find just what you’re looking for. We’re holding an end of financial year sale throughout June with 10-60% off the full price of items, so there couldn’t be a better time to begin your bar stool search. If you happen to be in the Brendale area then why not call into our showroom and try out some of the stools for size. How To Match Your Cafe Chairs To Your Table Base

cafe chairs and complementing basesPerhaps you’re starting out from scratch and have found that creating the look you had in mind for your cafe isn’t quite going as well as you’d hoped. Perhaps you’ve sourced the chairs you had in mind but feel that the tables don’t exactly match your décor or aren’t the right size to fit in with your floor plan. Rather than shrugging it off and accepting your second choice, why not learn just how to match table bases with chairs to create your own unique look.

Here are a few tips that we’ve put together to help you match table bases and chairs.

Choose commercial grade furniture

This may seem obvious, but always source commercial grade furniture for your cafe. While you may find other styles of chairs or tables that appeal, unlike commercial furniture they’re not designed to be used several times throughout the day on a daily basis. You could well find yourself needing to replace them just a few months down the line, and having to shell out a whole lot cash on new furniture. A lot of commercial furniture in Australia has passed AFRDI testing, which means that it’s been through rigorous testing and is considered suitable for frequent, regular use. What’s more, it isn’t always the furniture with the highest price tag either!

Styles to complement each other

One of the most important things is to make sure that the chairs and table bases you’re considering combining actually complement one another. A certain degree of quirkiness can be fun but items which dramatically clash can be totally off-putting. For example, while pairing a hot pink plastic chair with a black cast iron base may actually work, pairing that same chair with a traditional wood pub table just wouldn’t. If you can, place the two items together and try to find some sort element of common ground which makes them work together. For example, if your chair has some sort of metallic accent or frette work then try to find a table base with a similar metal accent or frette work.

Getting the size right

As well as considering the colours and materials of your chairs and table bases you also need to think about the difference in size. For example when you’re choosing a particular style of chair you need to ensure that the table base is the right height so that your customers will be comfortable. Get the base too low and your customers will feel as if they’re sitting at the children’s table and get the base too high, and your customers will feel like they’re children sitting at the grown-ups table. Be sure to check your measurements to get it right, and if in doubt, always ask the advice of the vendor.

It can demand a little creativity and courage to put your own look together, but don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and mix and match until you achieve the combination which draws the eye and makes your dining space appear really attractive and appealing.

Here at Cafe Furniture Brisbane we’ve got a wide range of chairs and tables bases to help you achieve your own unique look.
